The WOW Garden Project is a Fresh Food Initiative cultural awareness event designed to celebrate the many nationalities and cultures in our community. Decorated wheelbarrows planted with world food gardens representing the variety of ethnicities living in Fort Wayne will be displayed at four Last Saturday events as well as locations around town.
We Need You! We are recruiting sponsors, gardeners and ethnic groups/congregations/representatives.
Sponsorship -30 wheelbarrows will be sponsored by businesses, organizations or anyone who wants to be part of an amazing arts and cultural project.
Artists - The wheelbarrows will be painted or decorated by a local artist who has been paired with a sponsor to coordinate their design.
Ethnic group/Nationality – Teams will also include an international organization or cultural group who will share ideas, traditions and possibly even their own plants for the wheelbarrows.
Gardeners - Each wheelbarrow will also be matched with a gardener to plant herbs or vegetables that are culturally significant to the country or area represented. We ask that the gardener also be responsible for watering the wheelbarrow during the 3-week event period.
We welcome churches, service clubs, schools and businesses to participate in any or all positions on a wheelbarrow team!
Each WOW Garden Project wheelbarrow, when completed, will have been a partnership with the sponsor, artist, gardener and cultural group. The WOW Garden Project is a cultural collaboration of Catherine Kasper Place, Downtown Improvement District, local artists, arts and social organizations, gardeners, and the business sector. Decorated wheelbarrows planted with world food gardens representing the diverse cultures living in Fort Wayne will be displayed at four Last Saturday events as well as locations around town.
